Andreas Schmid Group brings e-trucks into regular operation economically

Gersthofen, June 26, 2026. Andreas Schmid Group is electrifying long-distance transport: The logistics company has acquired two fully electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks and is already using the vehicles in regular long-distance operations. Five additional e-trucks are already included in the investment plan for the current year.
With this, Andreas Schmid Group is taking the next step from testing individual technologies to the economically viable use of alternative drives in day-to-day transport operations.
“The decisive question is no longer whether e-trucks work technically. The decisive question is where they can be used reliably and economically,” says Thomas Schledorn, Executive Board Member of Andreas Schmid Group. “On defined long-distance routes such as our night line from Gersthofen to Neuenstein in Central Germany, we can already show today that electric mobility in heavy-duty transport is plannable, practical and increasingly economical.” At just under 800 kilometers, the route is the longest among Andreas Schmid Group’s night lines and therefore a particularly demanding practical test for the suitability of e-trucks in long-distance transport.
One important factor is the extended toll exemption for emission-free heavy commercial vehicles in Germany. Under current law, it applies until June 30, 2031, creating additional planning certainty for investments in battery-electric trucks.
Economic viability as a new driver
While e-trucks in logistics were long seen primarily as a topic of innovation and sustainability, economic viability is now increasingly moving to the forefront. In addition to lower local emissions, predictable deployment profiles, charging infrastructure, energy costs and regulatory framework conditions play a central role.
For Andreas Schmid Group, use on the night line is particularly suitable: The route can be planned on a daily basis and enables charging processes to be structurally integrated into existing workflows.
“As a medium-sized company, we cannot invest in symbolism; we need solutions that work in everyday operations,” says Schledorn. “The toll exemption is an important building block in this regard. It significantly improves the business case and accelerates the move into economically viable regular operations.”
The investment in e-trucks is part of Andreas Schmid Group’s sustainability strategy. In 2026, the company was one of the first logistics companies in the administrative district of Swabia to receive EMAS certification, thereby pursuing its environmental targets within a Europe-wide recognized environmental management system. The corporate group already uses photovoltaics at logistics sites, alternative fuels such as HVO100, and digital solutions for emissions recording, among other measures.
With the new eActros 600 trucks, Andreas Schmid Group is expanding its offering for lower-emission transport solutions while also gathering important experience for the further transformation of its fleet.
