Gersthofen, 9 March 2026. The Andreas Schmid Group has become one of the first logistics companies in the Swabian administrative region to receive EMAS certification. The certificate was presented by the Swabian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK Schwaben). EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is one of Europe’s most rigorous environmental management systems.

The certification confirms that the company has implemented a Europe-wide recognised environmental management system and systematically complies with its requirements. These include strict criteria such as recording key environmental indicators, defining clear environmental objectives and having its environmental performance regularly audited by external experts.

Jens Walter, Regional Managing Director of IHK Schwaben for the Augsburg economic region, commended the achievement: “The Andreas Schmid Group’s EMAS certification deserves great recognition. The company is setting an example both within the region and beyond, and everyone involved can be very proud of this. It is a wonderful and well-deserved achievement.”

Measurable sustainability

Through its environmental management system, the Andreas Schmid Group defines and monitors measurable targets and measures aimed at reducing emissions and using resources responsibly. “The EMAS requirements are demanding and call for a high degree of transparency, structure and consistency,” emphasises Dr Claudia Ambrosy, Chief Financial Officer of the Andreas Schmid Group. “By deciding to undertake the time-consuming EMAS certification process, we are sending a clear signal that sustainability is a central part of our corporate strategy.”

Focus on emissions

As is typical in the logistics industry, the greatest potential for improving environmental protection lies in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To achieve this, the Andreas Schmid Group is testing alternative drive technologies, generating renewable electricity using solar panels installed on the roofs of its logistics facilities and converting its own filling station to HVO100, a synthetic alternative to diesel. This fuel can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared with fossil diesel.

Transparency for customers

To provide maximum transparency regarding environmentally relevant key figures, customers of the Andreas Schmid Group will be able to gain even deeper insights into the emissions generated by their shipments. New software will calculate emissions down to individual shipment level and provide customers with detailed reports. Based on this information, the company will offer sustainable alternatives ranging from packaging solutions to alternative drive technologies. This will enable the Andreas Schmid Group’s customers to make more sustainable decisions and improve their own carbon footprint.

Through these measures, the Andreas Schmid Group is already establishing the structures required to comply with forthcoming EU-wide regulations on sustainability transparency and reporting.

Outlook

By receiving the EMAS certification, the Andreas Schmid Group already meets the requirements of a Europe-wide recognised system and is demonstrably contributing to the continuous improvement of its environmental performance. The certification marks an important step towards measurable sustainability in the logistics industry.
